Program Malaria Perdhaki

MALARIA PERDHAKI, Jayapura – The Head of the Sub-Region of Persatuan Karya Dharma Kesehatan Indonesia (Perdhaki) in the Diocese of Region I Jayapura, Hardus Desa, expressed pride in witnessing the unity of malaria cadres from various religions and ethnic groups in Papua in fighting malaria. Such a positive example should serve as a model for other regions in Indonesia and deserves appreciation. He cited that although the malaria cadre movement originated from the Catholic Church, everyone unites in the spirit of solidarity among cadres in Papua, and this is what makes Papua different from other regions.

“This does not choose to serve only in Catholic areas; we do not only select Catholics, but Muslims and Christians from various churches want to unite, we fight malaria,” said Hardus to Tribun-Papua.com on Monday, November 6, 2023. Whoever they are, Hardus added, if they are called to serve, Perdhaki is very open to that opportunity. This effort is aimed at malaria elimination.

“Those who feel called to tackle malaria, let us join hands together to save the community. There is no discrimination, no difference, but truly we want to unite to fight malaria,” invited Hardus. The solidarity of malaria cadres from various religions in Papua proves that unity and togetherness in the Land of Cenderawasih serve as an example for other regions in Indonesia. “This sense of togetherness is also stated in Perdhaki, and today Papua shows unity in diversity for Indonesia,” Hardus explained.

“What is unique about Papua is that our problems are our shared problems, and our problems must unite us; there must be no suspicion among us,” he added. Hardus also expressed appreciation to the government for supporting Perdhaki in malaria eradication through its cadres. “The local government is also very open and very accommodating. Truly, we must proclaim to Indonesia that from Papua, for Indonesia,” Hardus declared.
