SSR Trapesia Supports Microplanning Activities for Accelerating Malaria Elimination in Nabire

MALARIA PERDHAKI–NABIRE. As part of efforts to curb the surge in malaria cases, Malaria PERDHAKI through SSR Trapesia Nabire actively participated in and provided support for the Microplanning for Accelerating Malaria Elimination activity in Nabire Regency, held on June 18–19, 2026. The involvement of SSR Trapesia reflects its strong commitment to ensuring targeted operational planning in support of a malaria-free Nabire.
This strategic initiative was undertaken in response to the issuance of a Circular Letter by the Regent of Nabire regarding the Acceleration of Malaria Elimination. The policy was introduced following a significant increase in malaria cases, with the primary goal of achieving Malaria-Free Status for Nabire Regency by 2028.
According to data from the Malaria Information System (SISMAL), Nabire is currently facing a significant challenge, with malaria cases increasing by 161% by the end of 2025. The number of confirmed positive cases surged to 8,556, compared to 3,274 cases recorded at the end of 2024. This upward trend continued into early 2026, with 776 new cases reported between January and March.
In response to this alarming situation, the Indonesian Ministry of Health facilitated the microplanning activity using the EDAT (Early Detection and Access to Treatment) Method. This approach focuses on prevention, early case detection, and prompt, appropriate treatment. It has become one of the Ministry’s flagship strategies and has proven successful in reducing malaria cases, earning recognition at the international level.
Through the microplanning meeting, stakeholders were able to develop a detailed picture of the malaria situation in each health center service area and village. This mapping process covered disease distribution areas, the availability of Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs), medicine stocks, and operational logistics needs at both district and village levels.
The success of developing this plan was made possible through intensive support from various stakeholders, including Riska Tiara Puspa Dewi from the Indonesian Ministry of Health, Yulifizar Kasma from UNICEF together with Ronal, UNICEF’s partner from the Husada Foundation, Yenice Derek from the Provincial Health Office, Edi Sunandar, who served as a consultant for the West Papua Health Office, and Thomas Ara Kian from SSR Trapesia Nabire.
This entire series of activities represents a collaborative effort among the Community and Village Empowerment Office (DPMK), Malaria PERDHAKI (SSR Trapesia Nabire), UNICEF and its partners, the Indonesian Ministry of Health, and the Provincial and District Health Offices. As a follow-up to the microplanning activity, the next agenda to be implemented is a district-level coordination meeting.
This cross-sectoral relay of actions is expected to strengthen commitment and enhance the implementation of field programs, thereby accelerating progress toward a Malaria-Free Nabire.
