Wainyapu Village Accelerates Malaria Elimination, from Establishing a Malaria Elimination Task Force to Initiating a Draft Village Regulation on AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria (ATM).

Wainyapu Village, located in Kodi Balaghar Subdistrict, Southwest Sumba Regency, appears determined not to remain one of the villages with the highest malaria endemicity among the five villages in the Panenggo Ede Health Center area. Data shows that in 2024 the number of malaria cases in Wainyapu Village reached 482 cases with an API of 244.67. However, in 2025 the number decreased by around 55 percent to 269 cases with an API of 133.96.

Wainyapu Village fully realizes that the task of eliminating malaria is still a long journey. Moreover, the latest data (January and February 2026) shows that the number of malaria cases in Wainyapu Village remains the highest among the 13 villages in Kodi Balaghar Subdistrict. 

Various efforts to address malaria in Wainyapu Village have already been carried out. However, further measures are needed to accelerate malaria elimination. Therefore, SSR PWK Weetebula initiated a coordination meeting to encourage the participation of all village stakeholders.

The stakeholders welcomed the initiative. The meeting was held on February 19, 2026, attended by the Malaria Program Officer of the Southwest Sumba District Health Office, Chendriani R. Fernandes, the Secretary of Kodi Balaghar Subdistrict, Lodowyk A. Lalo, and the Head of Panenggo Ede Health Center, Elisabeth Mone.

Hasil pertemuan tersebut adalah terbentuknya Tim Kerja Eliminasi Malaria Desa Wainyapu, yang ditetapkan dalam SK Kepala Desa tertanggal 24 Februari 2026.

The task force is responsible for conducting socialization and education, monitoring bed net usage, facilitating malaria testing and treatment monitoring, and facilitating routine community clean-up activities. Together with the community, the team is also responsible for managing standing water during the rainy season. 

Masih dalam usaha percepatan, SSR PWK Weetabula juga menyerahkan draft Perdes tentang AIDS, Tuberkulosis, dan Malaria. PM SSR PWK Weetabula, Matheus Antonius Krivo, menyerahkan draft tersebut kepada kepala Desa Wainyapu, Yakup Holo, S.H. untuk bisa dibahas dan segera ditetapkan.

Keep up the spirit, Wainyapu Village! Hopefully all the initiatives that have been undertaken will significantly reduce malaria incidence this year.
