Following the Lead of Five Villages, Jayapura Regency Encourages All Villages to Adopt Malaria Elimination Village Regulations

MALARIA PERDHAKI–JAYAPURA. The Government of Jayapura Regency has expressed its appreciation for the steps taken by five Perdhaki-supported villages in enacting Village Regulations (Perkam) on Malaria Elimination.
The signing of the Village Regulations was carried out by five village heads from Lapua Village, Meyu Village, Yakonde Village, Hanggaiy Hamong Village, and Nendali Village. The signing was witnessed directly by the Acting Regional Secretary of Jayapura Regency, Yusuf Yambe Yabdi, on the sidelines of the Advocacy and Evaluation of AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria (ATM) Integrated Cadres activity in Jayapura on Wednesday (10/12).
The Acting Regional Secretary of Jayapura Regency, Yusuf Yambe Yabdi, appreciated the initiative of the five villages in supporting malaria elimination efforts through the establishment of Village Regulations.
“This shows that the five villages have made progress in malaria elimination efforts. What remains is how the government can provide optimal support so that the results can be even more effective,” Yusuf explained.

Yusuf further stated that the establishment of these Village Regulations is expected to be adopted by other villages. He also encouraged inter-village cooperation to enable the transfer of knowledge.
“This model is expected to be adopted by other villages through cooperation between villages to facilitate knowledge transfer and to understand the approaches implemented by these five villages,” Yusuf said.
Meanwhile, the five village heads—Okto Lambe (Lapua), Matias Demonggreng (Meyu), Yakub Daimoi (Yakonde), Yuliana Hamong (Hanggaiy Hamong), and Wemfrit Wally (Nendali)—have reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the implementation of the Malaria Elimination Village Regulations in their respective areas.
On the other hand, the role and contribution of community health cadres are also considered crucial in the implementation of the Village Regulations in each area.
Appreciation for the cadres’ contributions was conveyed by the Head of the Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) Division of the Jayapura Regency Health Office, Lilian Suebu.
According to her, the expansion of the role of malaria cadres through the Perkasa Cadre Program—where cadres are also equipped with education on HIV and TB—is a positive step.
“The expanded scope of this program greatly supports us at the Jayapura Regency Health Office, as cadres, as the front line of the community, help us achieve the targets set by the Ministry of Health,” Lilian explained.
She added that going forward, the Jayapura Regency Health Office will continue to support the performance of the cadres, including through funding support and routine activity evaluations.
