MALARIA PERDHAKI – One village in Jayapura City has taken a bold step in fighting malaria.

Tahima Soroma Village has officially ratified the Village Regulation (Perkam) on Malaria Elimination after holding a village-level coordination meeting on Thursday (27/11).

This ratification marks an important step in strengthening collective efforts for malaria control.

The Head of Tahima Soroma Village, Tommy Oktovianus Sibi, expressed his appreciation for the successful meeting, which he said provided valuable insights into the dangers of malaria.

Tommy emphasized that malaria is a shared responsibility and that malaria control cannot succeed if carried out alone.

Tommy emphasized that malaria is a shared responsibility and that malaria control cannot succeed if carried out alone.

He stated that the Malaria Elimination Perkam must become a foundation to support accelerated malaria programs.

Tahima Soroma Village is one of the assisted villages under the Sub Sub Recipient (SSR) of Yayasan Dian Harapan Papua (YDHP-1) in the South Jayapura District.

The enthusiasm of residents and community leaders at the meeting was high. Many provided input on the obligations and sanctions for residents who fail to adopt clean and healthy living habits.

“The community response is quite good. With this Perkam, we hope Tahima Soroma can truly become a malaria-free village,” he added.

Tommy also called on all community elements to actively support what has been collectively agreed upon.

“I invite all residents, the Village Government, and the Bamuskam to work together, because we are the ones who can break the chain of malaria transmission in this village,” he stressed.

“We want to ensure that the people of Tahima Soroma are not walking alone. We will provide support so the Perkam can run effectively and bring real benefits to the community,” he said.

At the same event, SSR YDHP-1 Program Manager Ranialdy Alfons said they would continue supporting the Tahima Soroma Village government to ensure proper implementation of the Perkam.

It is known that the meeting, held at the Tahima Soroma Village office, involved 20 community leaders and village officials. The follow-up meeting to establish the Malaria-Free Team is scheduled to be completed on Friday (28/11). (Kristmas Tawurutubun/PM SSR Dekenat Keerom-2)
