MALARIA PERDHAKI, Kupang – The malaria program training for SR and SSR staff by the Indonesian Health Service Work Association (Perdhaki) for the Eastern Indonesia region at the Aston Hotel Kupang began on Monday, September 18, 2017. The participants appeared focused while following the training materials, two of which covered an overview of the Perdhaki malaria program for the next three years and the identification of obstacles faced during program implementation. The Project Manager of the Perdhaki Malaria PR, Dr. Yohanes Ari Hermawan, when met in Kupang on Thursday, September 21, 2017, stated that 80% of the contributors to malaria morbidity rates in Indonesia come from the eastern part of Indonesia, with one of the provinces being East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

“There are five provinces that contribute significantly to the national malaria morbidity rate, namely Papua, West Papua, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Maluku, and North Maluku. Papua and West Papua contribute 73% of the national malaria morbidity rate,” he said. Dr. Ari further explained that this calculation is based on the number of cases per 1,000 population, or the Annual Parasite Incidence (API). “Actually, the malaria morbidity rate in NTT has been steadily decreasing every year since 2011. This achievement is also the result of government programs and Perdhaki’s efforts being well accepted by the community,” Dr. Ari added.
