SSR Mapurujaya Parish Volunteers and Mware Village Malaria Team Hold Community Clean-Up to Create a Healthier Environment

MALARIA PERDHAKI—MAPURUJAYA. As a concrete follow-up to the Malaria-Free Village Declaration, Malaria Elimination Volunteers from the SSR of Emanuel Mapurujaya Parish, together with the Mware Village Malaria Team, organized a community clean-up campaign with local residents on Saturday (July 24, 2026).

The clean-up involved all segments of the Mware Village community. Residents actively participated in cleaning the areas surrounding their homes that could potentially serve as breeding sites for Anopheles mosquitoes.

The campaign focused on cleaning drainage channels, managing water storage containers, and clearing vacant land. Team members inspected and cleaned clean-water storage containers, cut back and removed dense vegetation around residential yards, and collected and burned accumulated waste. In addition, residents cleared blocked drains and ditches to restore proper water flow.

Yakobus Muruhuwau, Chair of the Mware Village Malaria Team, emphasized the importance of consistency and concrete action in the fight against malaria. "Discussion alone is not enough. Practical action in the field is far more important. The key to achieving a malaria-free village is maintaining a clean environment on a continuous basis, and that requires the active participation of every household," said Yakobus.

Yakobus encouraged all residents of Mware Village to make this activity more than just a one-time event, but rather a deeply ingrained habit that is practiced continuously.

This initiative serves as clear evidence that collaboration among volunteers, village leaders, and the community can drive meaningful change. The Mware Village Malaria Team remains optimistic that the goal of achieving a malaria-free village can be realized by fostering a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment.
