MALARIA PERDHAKI – JAYAPURA. Nendali Village, located in East Sentani District, Jayapura Regency, Papua Province, has reaffirmed its commitment to establish a Village Regulation (Perkam) on malaria elimination targeted for 2026.

This commitment was emphasized during a coordination meeting involving PERDHAKI, the Jayapura Regency Health Office, the Secretary of the AIDS, TB & Malaria (ATM) Center, village officials, and community leaders on Wednesday (December 3).

The Secretary of the Jayapura Regency ATM Center, Pungut Sunarto, presented several technical strategies for malaria control that can be applied at the village level and highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration.

The meeting specifically discussed the malaria situation in Nendali Village, as well as the need to strengthen the role of community health volunteers and community support. The discussion resulted in an agreement to form the Nendali Village Malaria Team, which will serve as the implementing structure for malaria prevention and control activities at the village level.

The Head of Nendali Village, Wemfrit Wally, reaffirmed the village government's commitment to provide regulatory support through the issuance of the Village Regulation.

“This regulation will serve as the legal basis for allocating the 2026 malaria program budget, including support for malaria volunteers and field operational needs. The drafting of the regulation will begin soon as a sign of the village government’s serious commitment to reducing malaria cases,” said Wemfrit.

The meeting concluded with a joint agreement to strengthen cross-sector coordination and ensure the regulation drafting process proceeds as planned, so that malaria elimination efforts in Nendali Village can be implemented in a more focused and sustainable manner.
