MALARIA PERDHAKI – JOHANNESBURG. At the 8th Replenishment Summit held in Johannesburg, Global Fund partners demonstrated strong solidarity by mobilizing a total of US$ 11.34 billion.

This commitment aims to strengthen the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis (TB), and malaria. The investment pledge is also directed toward building more resilient health systems across countries.

Despite geopolitical uncertainties and economic pressures, the summit underscored the global determination to continue pushing back major epidemics. World leaders, multilateral donors, civil society organizations, and private sector actors were present to reaffirm that global health challenges remain a priority.

Significant contributions came from major donors, including the United Kingdom, which pledged GBP 850 million for prevention, testing, and treatment. Meanwhile, the United States, Global Fund’s largest single donor, committed US$ 4.6 billion, reinforcing its strategic support for the partnership.

Germany pledged €1 billion, while other G20 countries also increased or reaffirmed their support commitments.

Countries across Africa also played an active role. South Africa announced a contribution of US$ 36.6 million, including US$ 10 million from the local private sector. Other African nations expressed solidarity with a combined commitment of US$ 51.59 million.

The role of the private sector continues to grow. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation contributed US$ 912 million, CIFF added US$ 135 million, and (RED) reaffirmed its support with US$ 75 million.

Lady Roslyn Morauta, Chair of the Global Fund Board, stated that all partners are now determined to adapt in an increasingly challenging world.

“These results reflect the world’s confidence in our collective model and its enduring strength to deliver impact,” said Lady Roslyn in a Global Fund press release on Monday (24/11).

She added that the Global Fund’s performance-based and community-led operating model will continue to be upgraded following the principles of the Accra Reset. This includes simplifying grant processes, strengthening national leadership, and scaling up joint procurement.

Global Fund also announced deeper collaboration with institutions such as WHO, the African Union, and Gavi to reinforce the global health ecosystem.

Looking Ahead

The funds will not only support disease programs but also strengthen laboratories, data systems, medical oxygen, and health workforce training.

Global Fund Executive Director Peter Sands emphasized the need for transformation and efficiency in advancing global health services for communities.

“These pledges will save millions more lives, but they also mark a turning point. Our model remains strong – but the world around us is changing. We must keep evolving: becoming smarter, faster and more efficient, and ensuring the entire global health system works better for the people it serves,” Peter explained.

Peter added that through the Grant Cycle Eight strategy, the Global Fund will work smarter and more country-driven over the next three years to accelerate access to care and build sustainable health systems.

With these commitments, Global Fund partners hope to create a healthier generation while ensuring today’s investments deliver long-term impact for the world.
