MALARIA PERDHAKI, Manokwari – The Limited Association for Health Care (PT.PS) held training for Village Malaria Health Cadres (JMD) at Hotel Valdos from Wednesday, May 18, 2022, to Monday, May 23, 2022.
The training activity was officially opened by the Head of the Manokwari Regency Health Office, Dr. Alfred Bandaso, marked by the beating of a tifa drum and the awarding of participant cards to two representatives.
This Village Malaria Health Cadre training aims to be one of the solutions in addressing malaria issues to reduce morbidity rates and support malaria elimination in Manokwari Regency.

The training committee chairperson, Anita Stevani Huwaa, reported that the malaria elimination target in West Papua Province by 2027 is drawing closer. Therefore, concrete steps are needed to accelerate achieving this target. Besides services within health centers or hospitals, expanding active case detection outreach from house to house in villages or hamlets is highly needed.
According to her, this effort aims to break the chain of malaria transmission. It is hoped that with active and planned malaria case detection in collaboration with the Manokwari Regency Health Office, the impact of case reduction in both rural and urban areas can be more significant.
In addition, improving health education, better patient management, and more efficient and integrated vector control are highly necessary to address the spread of malaria.
Anita explained that the Village Malaria Health Cadre (JMD) training is an educational activity for the community. Selected health cadres from villages or hamlets will receive technical training, ranging from blood sampling, malaria knowledge, treatment, to supervising medication intake for malaria patients.
She hopes this training will produce skilled cadres capable of expanding the reach of proper malaria treatment services, as well as reducing morbidity and new transmissions. This way, patients can promptly receive appropriate and effective care and treatment.
