Hiripau’s Progressive Step: Targeting a Reduction in Malaria Cases Through Village Regulations

MALARIA PERDHAKI – East Mimika. The spirit of malaria eradication in Mimika Regency continues to expand. Now, Hiripau Village has officially declared its full commitment to follow in the footsteps of other villages. Through a Village-Level Coordination Meeting held on Tuesday, March 25, 2026, they committed to accelerating malaria elimination.

The SSR of Emanuel Mapurujaya Parish initiated this strategic meeting at the Emanuel Mapurujaya Parish Hall. Various key stakeholders attended the event, including the District Government, the Person in Charge (PJ) of Malaria for Mimika Regency, the Community Health Center (Puskesmas), and village officials. Traditional leaders, religious leaders, youth leaders, women leaders, as well as malaria cadres were also present to provide full support.

The meeting focused on discussing concrete steps to reduce malaria cases in Hiripau Village. The Village Government strengthened its commitment to take a central role in public policy capable of mobilizing all levels of society to work hand in hand in combating malaria.

The Head of Hiripau Village, Bonifasius, emphasized that they would not remain passive in the face of malaria cases. “We fully support the SSR program of Emanuel Mapurujaya Parish. We will make every effort and continue to collaborate with the District Government and the Community Health Center for the health of our community,” said Bonifasius in his remarks.

As a form of written commitment, the Hiripau Village Government expressed its readiness to issue strong regulations. The meeting produced four key agreements that will be implemented immediately:

  • Establishing a Malaria Elimination Forum Team: providing a dedicated platform at the village level to coordinate eradication programs.
  • Issuing an Official Decree (SK) for the Village Malaria Team: granting legal authority to field officers and cadres.
  • Drafting a Village Regulation (Perkam): creating a legal foundation at the local level to support the sustainability of elimination programs.
  • Conducting public outreach (socialization): ensuring that all villagers are informed of the agreements and receive malaria prevention education.

The District and Regency Governments welcomed this progressive step. Through village regulations and a dedicated forum, stakeholders hope to significantly improve environmental monitoring and public awareness.

Through this cross-sector collaboration, Hiripau Village is optimistic about reducing malaria morbidity rates. This effort directly contributes to achieving the malaria elimination target in Mimika Regency.
