Realizing a Healthy Environment, SSR Sempan Parish Collaborates Across Sectors in a Mass Community Clean-Up in Nawaripi Village

MALARIA PERDHAKI–Nawaripi. Dozens of residents of RT 04 in Nawaripi Village, Wania District, Mimika Regency, Central Papua Province, recently carried out a joint activity through a mass community clean-up on March 2, 2026.

The Head of Wania District and the Head of Nawaripi Village directly led the community service activity, which received full support from local residents. SSR of St. Stefanus Sempan Parish acted as a strategic partner and actively participated alongside the health team from Wania Health Center and CHD of PT Freeport Indonesia, who also joined this collaborative effort.

All parties recognize that a clean environment is the key and an essential requirement for maintaining community health. Residents trimmed wild bushes and drained or removed standing water to break the chain of disease transmission and eliminate malaria mosquito breeding sites.

“This activity reflects our concern for public health. Together with Babinsa, Lanud Timika, and the Malaria Team, we ensure that the environment in Nawaripi Village is free from sources of disease,” said a representative of SSR Sempan Parish at the activity site.

The series of activities began at 08:30 WIT with a briefing session for volunteers. Malaria Perdhaki, through SSR Sempan Parish, continued with a Village Discussion to build community understanding of the close relationship between environmental sanitation and family health. The SSR Sempan Parish team also oversaw the implementation of the activities through to the waste collection stage and ensured that all participants received sufficient meals.

This community clean-up action not only improved environmental cleanliness but also strengthened the bonds among all participants. This strong synergy proves that the residents of Nawaripi Village are now one step closer to building a community-based health defense system. Through this active collaboration, the community is tangibly accelerating progress toward sustainable malaria elimination.
