Strengthening Malaria Elimination, SSR PWK Weetabula Actively Participates in the Simultaneous Malaria Action (GSM) in Ana Kaka Village

MALARIA PERDHAKI – Southwest Sumba. As a demonstration of its commitment to supporting the regional government’s program, SSR PWK Weetabula actively participated in the Simultaneous Malaria Action Movement (Gerakan Serentak Malaria/GSM) initiated by the Southwest Sumba District Health Office. This collaborative action targets endemic areas across four sub-districts in the Kodi region—Kodi, North Kodi, Kodi Bangedo, and Kodi Balaghar.  

To ensure effective coverage, Bondo Kodi Community Health Center formed three teams deployed across each hamlet in Ana Kaka Village, Kodi Sub-district, Southwest Sumba District. The activity involved 19 personnel, led directly by the Head of the Community Health Center, Antonius Doni Dawa, and the malaria program officer, Izai Mattan Manna. The SSR PWK Weetabula team, led by Project Manager (PM) Matheus Antonius Krivo, accompanied by CSO staff member Yasinta Malo, also went directly to the field.

The inaugural launch of GSM took place on March 2, 2026. The implementation of activities in Ana Kaka Village was briefly delayed due to heavy rain. However, under solid coordination, the teams remained enthusiastic and carried out a series of activities, including:

• • Mass Blood Survey (MBS): Mass blood sampling for residents of Ana Kaka Village, facilitated by Village Malaria Workers (Juru Malaria Desa/JMD) and village government officials.

• • Breeding Site Intervention: Cleaning mosquito breeding sites and addressing standing water that could potentially become breeding grounds for Anopheles mosquitoes, the vectors of malaria.

• • Larval Control: Application of larvicide in water pools that could not be drained.

• • Digital Vector Survey: Data collection on bed net usage compliance, recorded digitally through the Epicollect application.

The GSM activities will continue from March to April 2026, involving all community health centers in the Kodi area. Puskesmas Bondo Kodi, together with six other health centers, will visit other villages within their respective service areas as part of the malaria elimination efforts.
